Anthony Bourdain basically validated what we all know: Montreal has one of the best food scenes in North America.
Well, actually, what he said was that three of Montreal’s chefs should be declared national heroes.
The “Parts Unknown” host hit the city when filming the first season of the show.
He ice fished with Frederic Morin and David McMillan, chef-owners of Joe Beef and Liverpool House restaurants, and trapped with Au Pied de Cochon owner Martin Picard.
“I’m a huge fan and loyalist and evangelical on the subject of Martin Picard and Fred and Dave at Joe Beef. I mean, I think they’re not just good for Montreal. They’re good for Canada. They’re good for the world,” said Bourdain, according to The Canadian Press.
“I’d put all three of those guys on the Canadian currency,” he said.
“If I were in charge of such things they would be national heroes. They’d be iconic figures. The Canadian version of Mount Rushmore would have those three guys up there and maybe Jen (Agg) from Black Hoof (in Toronto) also,” he said.
Bourdain was in Toronto this week to promote his thirteenth book, “Appetites: A Cookbook” (Ecco), which he co-authored with Laurie Woolever. The book features favourite family recipes.
While he as a lot of love for Montreal, what you won’t hear Bourdain raving about is airplane food. Earlier this year, he revealed it was the one food he won’t eat.
