Describe what you do in less than 140 characters. Go.
I own and operate a private, one-on-one personal training clinic in the heart of Toronto’s financial district. The MedX Method of training utilizes scientifically proven practices to provide complete fitness in just 20 minutes, once per week.

What was the inspiration for your career route?
I got into the industry at a young age due to injury, and had a passion for physiology and understanding the whys of exercise. After a long period of research and implementation, I saw an opening in the marketplace here in Toronto and established our brand in order to be able to help. My inspirations present themselves daily when people actualize the benefits of our methods and improve their day-to-day lives. Potential impact is a potent inspiration.

What is the most memorable milestone in your career so far?
The fitness industry is incredibly saturated, and it’s tough seeing businesses come and go. I started the company young, and hitting the five-year mark has been the biggest milestone to date.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years?
In five years I’d love to have another location or two here in the city.

In 10 years I’d like to see MedX partnered with complementary service providers, and all under one roof in a “one-stop-shop” centre for betterment.

In 20 years I would love to be spending my time enjoying all of the things I still enjoy today.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Busy for the sake of being busy is lazy. Prioritize your tasks, and cross things off of your list. Taking 13 hours to do seven hours of work is not a badge of honour worth bragging about. Be more efficient.

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is it (or they) important to you?
MedX has very recently partnered with a newly formed not-for-profit called Canadian Sarcopenia Foundation. Sarcopenia is the medical term for the loss of muscle as you age, and it is responsible for a large number of health implications and sizeable demands on the healthcare system as a whole. The foundation was established to provide subsidized services that have been proven to reverse, prevent, or stop the age-related decline in muscle mass and functionality.

What is one major challenge that you’ve had to overcome in your career? How did you overcome it?
I started the business at quite a young age. It was difficult at first to get people to take me and my goals seriously. Following through on my intentions was an easy way to overcome it.  The fitness industry as a whole is a challenge as well. It’s an industry largely based on folklore and product selling with no real message other than more is better, and “do what I do because I look like this.”

When your entire business model is formed around questioning the workings of physiology, and selling a scientifically sound model that focuses on progress rather than sexy appearances, it can sometimes feel like you’re swimming upstream. Overcoming that is simple though: back up your statements with both sound logic and scientific reasoning.

What does the word notable mean to you?
Worth remembering.

Where is your favourite place to wine/dine in your city and why?
Currently obsessed with Carbon Bar. The space is great, their drinks are fantastic, and their ribs… whoa.

What’s the most visited website on your Internet browser? The most played song on your phone?
Twitter! It can be an amazing research resource if used properly. It has a strong scientific community, and it’s REALLY easy to mute trolls.

Who’s one person you think everyone should be following on social media?
If I’m not allowed to say MedX Precision Fitness, then it has to be Tim Ferriss!

What’s your favourite country to visit and why? And what’s the next one you plan on travelling to?
I lived in Australia for a few years, and I love going back there to see everyone.

I’m off to India in October for my sister’s wedding; pumped for that!

What gives you the greatest FOMO?
Being at work on a hot, sunny, summer day when the wind is flat. I should be waterskiing!

What’s your guiltiest pleasure?
If you were to put 36 bags of Miss Vickie’s chips in front of me, they’d disappear.

What’s something you wish you didn’t spend so much money on? What’s something you wish you spent more on?
I wish I spent a little less on toys. I’m a sucker for new fun things.

I wish I could wrap my head around spending a little more on projects. If I could, I would always have something DIY on the go. It’s a pricey hobby though; it can add up quick!

And finally, what does success look like to you? Work, play, or otherwise…
Success to me is having your work, play, rest, and curiosity all line up in harmony to be able to do justice to one another.

Working enough to make a difference and fuel your desire to learn new things while allowing you the freedom to get out there and do the things that make you happy sounds amazing. We work too much these days. Being able to take control and have a sustainably productive life is the ultimate measure of success to me.
