For anyone who has been to France, the way you shop for groceries is much different than what we're accustomed to in Canada. Rather than heading to massive superstores, popping into specialty shops such as boulangeries and patisseries for your fresh baguette and delicate desserts are the norm. If you love that, we recommend you head to L’Epicerie. This shop definitely lives up to its name, which is based on the traditional designation to street corner grocery stores comprised of a spice counter selling a variety of items like charcuterie, dry goods, produce, meats and cheeses.

Owner, Chef Dominique Moussu, grew up in France surrounded by food (his family has owned Le Pont D'Anjou in La Guerche for over 40 years) and has brought to Calgary his love and expertise of all things French.

Located on MacLeod Trail at 1325 1st St SE, the minute you walk through the door L’Epicerie has you dreaming of far off places...or, more specifically, little French towns and cobblestone streets. The staff is predominantly francophone and will welcome you with an inviting “bonjour.” Should you respond in French, be prepared for the conversation to continue on in the language of love.

In addition to the traditional offerings, you can buy fresh baked baguettes, quiche, croque monsieur, soup, salad, sandwiches and desserts. But the piece de resistance has got to be their house-made pork pate and the truffle cheese terrine.

Curious about lunch? They've got you covered there, too. Their sandwiches will put most others in the city to shame. How can anyone compete with baguette sandwiches filled with duck rilette, foie gras and brie de meux?

L’Epicerie is definitely worth the visit whether you're planning on popping in for lunch or simply grabbing some delicious nibbles for your next dinner party.
