Ryan Davis and Ben Bacal have bought and sold homes for some of the wealthiest people in the world, including Ellen DeGeneres, Matt Damon, Matthew Perry and Ted Waitt, but they've just returned home to encourage Torontonians to scoop up Hollywood vacation homes at a fraction of their normal price (they say LA is a refined Florida)...
Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
We place our clients into their dream homes and set record sale prices for our sellers.
Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
Ryan: I was attracted to Sotheby's as it’s a luxe brand with international reach. I got into the career because of my love for architecture and interior design.
Ben: I wanted to make a lot of money to self-start my dot-com ventures.

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
Ryan: The best part is getting to see some of the best real estate on the planet. A more challenging part is dealing with different personalities.
Ben: The best part is keeping deals together and watching people get the keys to their dream homes. The most challenging is managing expectations and making sure my escrows close.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Ryan: Still in the same position, but with many more sales under my belt.
Ben: Focused on my real estate dot-com, www.pocketlister.com, and making that a worldwide brand.
What does success look like to you?
Ryan: A perfect balance between family life and work life.
Ben: Family, home, passive income and a successful dot-com.
What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
Ryan: My first sale. I sold a property to Erin Williams, the daughter of AC/DC bass player Cliff Williams. The Williams family was wonderful to work with.
Ben: Selling a $20,000,000.00 home, which set a record in the neighbourhood. Do you have any advice for other young professionals? Ryan: Stick with your dreams and don’t let anyone or anything get in the way. Ben: Work harder than everyone else!
Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
Ryan: Cancer Society. Sadly, I’ve lost two family members to cancer.
Ben: The Natural Resources Defense Council. The environment is the future for our children and the NRDC works to protect wildlife and natural resources. I also donate monthly to Oxfam International. The Sahel region of West Africa is once again likely to face a serious food crisis. We aim to reach 1.8 million people across the region with aid.
What to you is notable?
Ryan: Being honest and true to your word.
Ben: Nice people who actually care about others and their feelings.
Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
Ryan: iPhone 5!
Ben: iPhone and Blackberry, but iPhone more because of the apps.
