This Saturday, one beloved Canadian charity is giving Special Olympics athletes and special needs performers their moment in the spotlight.

Enter the first-ever motionball Idol.

Six talented Special Olympics athletes will find their voices as they compete for a chance to headline this year’s 16th annual motionball Gala on February 3.

It’s a pretty big honour: Past motionball performers have included names like Carmen Electra (who chatted with us pre-show).

Not to mention, the winner will perform in front of 3,000 celebrities, young professionals and Special Olympics athletes who will grace Toronto’s Liberty Grand to drink, donate and dance the winter blues away in support of Special Olympics Canada .

Among Saturday’s competitors is Youtube sensation Madison Tevlin, a 14-year-old Torontonian with Down syndrome whose inspiring cover of John Legend’s All of Me went viral, earning over 8 million views.

It all goes down at SpeakEasy 21, starting at 3pm.

Performances will be judged by motionball co-founder Paul Etherington, Special Olympics athlete Sandy Van, KISS 92.5 FM’s Devo Brown and Olympic gold-medalist Tessa Bonhomme.

If you can’t make motionball Idol, you’ll want to do what you need to now to ensure you’re among the well-heeled guests at Liberty Grand on February 3.

Filled with the city’s finest, it’s the type of event where you could bump into someone you haven’t seen since high school, a co-worker, a cousin and a client all within five minutes. It’s also the type of event where you’re pretty much guaranteed to have a good time (almost too good of a time–don’t book an early brunch).
